Carbon Tomato

I've had a fair number of cherry tomatoes ripen already but this is the first sign of colour from Carbon. I've already pinched off the growing tips so it can put all its energy into the ripening fruit since I don't think any new tomatoes starting to form now would get a chance to form/ripen before frost. There's a good 15+ tomatoes ranging in size from marble-sized to what I imagine is close to the largest they'll get, just not showing colour yet. There are a few flowers on the tips of the stems but we'll have to have some pretty late frosts to get anything from them.

(Edit - that's a pretty terrible picture. A little surprising how much better the camera on my 3 year old Sony still is compared to the camera on my new Acer. Also I think I'll pretty well exclusively using BlogAway for my mobile blogging. The only real editing I have to do after the fact is centre the pictures and resize. Bloggeroid was very good but there was just more fixing up with formating for the pictures so it was marginally less convenient. At the end of the day I won't be doing a ton of mobile blogging if that's the best picture I can manage.)

Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day! Short and Sweet, lots of pictures not so many words.

Apparently July is a month for hot pink!



Achillea cv. (Yarrow) is tolerated because I'm not allowed to get rid of it. I just wish it didn't flop so much.


Floribunda Rose 'Sexy Rexy' is not quite hot pink, it's fairly hard to describe really but I think the picture captures it well. Lots of depth to the colour.


Alcea rosea 'Fiesta Time' is only passing through my yard. I have no space and this will live in my sister's yard until I might be able to get a seedling of my own from it.

And because there's more to the garden than pink here are a few extras:



Agastache 'Black Adder' - I think I might prefer 'Blue Fortune' but I've only just moved this to a place it should be happier so I'll reserve judgment on it.


Hydrangea 'Kyushu' is putting on a good show in my front yard as a standard.


This is an orange cherry Tomato I'm growing this year.

On the whole my garden sits waiting through the spring into June when it starts to take off. Here's a few quick shots of what's flowering for me on this Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day.

Of note as well are the Iris & Ivory Silk Lilac which both managed to start and finish flowering between the May Bloom Day and today. Honestly the Lilac can't finish fast enough. The entire front garden is covered in a disgusting mulch of brown finished flowers, mimicking the same colour in the tree. It's much too large to try and deadhead so it will stay looking terrible for a little while longer. By the time it finishes flowering as well the strong fragrance becomes a little too strong and a little too much.



Calamint (Calamintha grandiflora) - The larger pink one is almost finished, the dwarf white one will soon start and go until a hard frost.


Hosta 'Tiny Tears' is a very cute dwarf hosta I've recently bought.


Siberian Bellflower (Campanula poscharskyana) needs to get cut back hard and divided once it stops flowering, that won't be for a while though.


Dahlia 'Louisiania' is really starting to pick up. Maybe I will try keeping this one over the winter.


My NOID Red Rose will be stunning this year. Each stem has 25-30 buds on it. I'll replace this picture with one of it open in a little bit.


The 'Tumbler' Tomato - brought home an unhappy looking plant from work. May or may not make it but it's covered with unripe fruit. I imagine all it needs is a good amount of fertilizer and it should be fine.

And that's just a quick sampling of everything I have flowering outside this Bloom Day.
